“Emotionally” attached is really a matter of proximity to a stimulus and not of a “mind” being at the mercy of a “self” in a tortured “thought process.” With a powerful stimulus comes the call for a lifelong training in emotional detachment. To be fair though, there are legitimate times when practiced detachment is useful and even life-saving. But preferring the cognitive discipline when a little strategic movement in the real world precludes a problem is due to emotional attachment to the esteem of demonstrating emotional detachment.
