Authoritarians are divined through the entrails of the history they sacrifice.

What profound loneliness must accompany the Amish with insightful courage, knowledge of social consequence, and a love for family. One pays respect to one’s doctrine as one pays a ransom for relationships held hostage.

Cheer up tyrants; even history has a future.

On Alcatraz one could escape the prison but not the island; the people, but not the necessity that sent one back to one’s fellow prisoners. It was history that made every _genuine_ escape artist a philosopher.

The hand grips where the finger’s lie: Objectivity is what subjectivity feels in the thinnest, white gloves.

He was the most intelligent of idiots, bobbing and weaving to every opposing question.

Even the shy and silent Coyote must howl: Feeling lonely together is not quite _that_ lonely. The impulse from each assures relief through a resounding declaration of self-reliance.

Envy: a value inversion of another’s merit by the clarity with which one sees it.

There is no moral good that does not make the _amorality_ of a fact the cornerstone of any claim of honesty.

When the intelligent confess that they cannot explain a matter to me, I dread the afterthought. What Newton could explain to Einstein, Einstein could not explain to Newton.

There is either a toleration for all but the intolerant … or a intolerance for all but the tolerant, because tolerance is taken as permission.

One who believes that God’s goodness is invincible and that all is written can step aside and let the devil have its duel with Satan … or by the inverse of the same principle, display in their intolerance an overwhelming suspicion of God’s weakness.
